Phase 7 of 7Backhand (RHBH)

Follow Through

Goal: Let your body finish its rotation naturally and come to a balanced stop. The follow-through isn't something you 'do' — it's what happens when you don't cut the throw short. It also protects your arm from injury.

Beginner Tip

A balanced finish is a sign that everything before it went well. If you're stumbling, the problem started earlier in the throw.

Key Actions

  • Let your arm continue across your body along its natural path.
  • Let your rear leg swing through to absorb your forward momentum.
  • Re-center your posture and come to a balanced stop.

Focus Points

  • You should feel balanced and stable after the throw — no stumbling or falling off to one side.
  • Your arm deceleration should feel smooth and gradual, not forced or abrupt.
  • After the throw, your body should be facing roughly toward the target.

Common Mistakes to Avoid

  • Jerking your arm to a sudden stop, which strains your elbow and shoulder over time.
  • Falling or stumbling sideways, which usually means your run-up was too fast or your plant was off-balance.
  • Holding your head rigidly still while your body rotates through.

Head & Gaze

Let your eyes naturally track the disc toward the target. Your neck should feel relaxed and comfortable, not held in any forced position.
