Phase 5 of 7 — Forehand (RHFH)
Forward Swing
Goal: Unwind from the ground up — hips, then torso, then elbow, then wrist — to whip the disc forward with maximum spin. This sequenced rotation is what creates power without muscling the throw.
Beginner Tip
Palm up the whole time. If you feel your palm rolling over, slow down and focus on keeping it skyward.
Key Actions
- Fire your hips open toward the target first — this starts the chain reaction.
- Drive your elbow forward ahead of your hand, like you're elbowing someone in front of you.
- Keep your palm facing upward (toward the sky) throughout the swing to maintain the correct disc angle.
- Let your wrist snap happen late and fast at the very end — this is where most of the spin comes from.
Focus Points
- The motion should feel like cracking a whip — each segment pulls the next one faster.
- Your elbow leads your hand — if your hand passes your elbow, you're pushing, not whipping.
- Stay on a consistent plane; don't let your arm drop or rise during the swing.
Common Mistakes to Avoid
- Rolling your wrist over so your palm faces down — this causes the disc to turn over and dive left (for RHFH).
- Dropping your elbow below your wrist, which creates a slow, arcing throw instead of a flat line.
- Muscling the throw with your shoulder instead of letting the wrist do the work.
Head & Gaze
Your eyes track forward along the target line. Your head stays quiet — resist the urge to jerk it for extra speed.
