Phase 6 of 7 — Forehand (RHFH)
Release
Goal: Let the disc rip cleanly off your fingertips with a flat spin. A clean release means less wobble and more predictable flight.
Beginner Tip
If the disc wobbles in the air, your wrist was probably tilted at release. Practice short throws focusing on a flat, clean snap.
Key Actions
- Let the disc peel off your index and middle fingers as your wrist fully extends.
- Extend your wrist through the target line — point your fingers where you want the disc to go.
- Keep your palm facing up at the moment of release to prevent the disc from turning over.
- Release the disc out in front of your plant foot, not behind or beside your body.
Focus Points
- The front edge of the disc should be level or angled very slightly downward (nose down) — this helps the disc carry farther.
- The disc should come out flat or on a slight hyzer (outside edge tilted down), not wobbling.
- A clean release feels effortless — if you feel the disc catching or snagging, check your grip.
Common Mistakes to Avoid
- Looking away or flinching before the disc leaves your hand — commit to watching the release.
- Rolling your wrist over at the last moment, which causes the disc to turn and dive.
- Gripping too tight at release, which prevents a clean rip and kills spin.
Head & Gaze
Eyes are locked on your release point — the spot in the air where the disc leaves your hand. Let your gaze follow the disc naturally after release.
